CHARTS: Rihanna ends Katy Perry's reign
-Posted by: Quivi
Rihanna's "Disturbia" finally boots Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts to No. 3 after seven long weeks.
Now, it's no secret that we've been rooting for Perry's removal for weeks, but it's kind of a surprise that it's Rihanna and not Chris Brown's "Forever" (which holds at No. 2) pushing her out. Did the outing of Brown's hit as an undercover reworking of Wrigley's Doublemint commercial hurt its popularity? Did the exposure "Disturbia" gets throughout the new Circuit City ad campaign (which seems to run on NBC whenever Michael Phelps wins a gold medal) give Rihanna, whose "Take a Bow" is still at No. 4, the added boost? Either way, it's becoming clear that outside forces -- and not radio or traditional promotion -- is what is launching many of the biggest hits. Look at M.I.A.'s massive leap to No. 5 this week for "Paper Planes" thanks to its use in the "Pineapple Express" movie. ... Read More ...

Billboard Charts Update
-Posted by: Quivi
It's big Mamma's house on the charts. With no monster debuts this week, it became a battle of the holdovers, and the Mamma Mia! soundtrack rose to the top by actually losing the least. Miley Cyrus and Sugarland sales skidded 37 and 47 percent respectively between weeks, but the ABBA-charged Mamma Mia! dipped just 5 percent on its way to its first chart crown.
Among the other recent chart toppers, Cyrus' Breakout held tight at No. 2 on 102,000 copies, while Sugarland's Love on the Inside fell to No. 3 on 91,000 discs. ... Read More ...

In Style CoverGirl
-Posted by: Anna
Rihanna was the August 2008 covergirl for InStyle magazine. In an interview she revealed her style secrets, as well as her tattoo diary!
Read some of it here: In Style: How do you dress for a full day at the beach? Rihanna: Very comfortably. I like wearing a bikini with a cover-up that’s loose, not too long and a little bit sheer. Flip-flops of course, I like Havaianas (a brazilian sandal) because they are so easy to wash off - the sand sticks to my feet, and that gets annoying.
In Style: What’s your hot beach club look? Rihanna: A short dress in a vibrant color that flatters my legs - and I do like showing mine. With accessories, I try not to do too much. So, simple jewelry like gold earrings. And I trade in the flip-flops for a pair of Gucci Shoes.
In Style: This issue is all a about breaking entrenched rules of fashion and design. What are some rules you'd like to crush? Rihanna: The idea of not wearing brown and black together seems so dated. The other day I wore a black T-shirt, black Nobody jeans, a brown leopard-print belt by Dolce & Gabbana, and brown Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, and it looked awesome. Also the rule about matching your makeup to your outfit. I do that on-stage, matching red lipstick to a bright red jacket or neon-pink eye shadow to a pink jumpsuit. And I also love to mix prints.
In Style: Can you talk about your style obsessions and how your look has evovled over the years? Rihanna:It has evovled without my even noticing it. Lately I'm obseesed with Thierry Mulger. Some of my looks are influenced by him. Grace Jones inspires me. She is the most iconic woman ever, in my eyes. She has extraordinary style and she's fearless. I love designer Martin Margiela; Kanye West told me about him. I also like Dsqaured, Chloe, Zac Posen-- he makes flattering lines.
